Outdoor Design

When you think of Valley Forge Flowers, think about your outdoor living space as well.

Valley Forge Flowers is not just about the inside of your home and making it beautiful, we now have a wonderful collection of outdoor furniture by Lane Venture and a line of custom pillows that are waterproof, stain resistant and mildew resistant by Elaine Smith. Both can be used inside or outside the home.

Lane Venture furniture has a 5 year warranty and the cushions all have a mesh base that water can thoroughly drain through and within 2-3 hours your furniture will be moisture free! A safe way to do your outdoors is to pick a neutral fabric and accent with the pillows. If you get tired of your look, you can change up the pillows. Generally you will see in the showrooms that designers are staying neutral in their outdoor furniture. Lane Venture comes in cast aluminum, synthetic wicker and a new line that looks like teak but is aluminum. They also offer a complete upholstered line of outdoor furniture which is perfect for a sunroom or covered patio (but works poolside too!).

The pillows pictured are part of the new Marrakech collection by Elaine Smith: Cashmere peacock and a red.

To complete the outdoor look, Valley Forge carries candle and battery operated lanterns. A great way to add a modern contemporary take to your patio. Some feature grape vine and others are a mesh wicker option. The fun part about theses lanterns is the ability to add color- they look great spray painted and can add an extra pop to your outdoor environment. They are great hung up or sitting on a table and come in various sizes from 12″ to 24″ in height.

Be sure to check out our bistro iron sets in addition to the upholstered outdoor furniture. We offer sets for both parents and children. These pieces look darling in your garden or nestled in your yard under a tree.

Prom Flowers

It is that time of year: boutonnieres, nosegays, and corsages!

Nosegays are currently trending for the gals, while boutonnieres have stayed popular for the boys. Traditionally prom flowers are made of full scented flowers because back in the day, there was a lack of hygiene. The ladies wanted something nice to smell. Now a days, any flower can be used but long lasting is most important.

It is best to order in advance (a couple days) so we can set aside the best flowers or order special ones for you. Make sure you put your nosegay in a vase of water when you get home.

Garden roses, standard roses, ranunculus, lithianthus, pink sweet peas pictured in this deluxe nosegay.

Steph and Andrey are ready for the VFF prom! Thanks to Steph for talking about prom flowers and being a good sport about the photos.

Craving Citrus

Let us zest up your spring with a little bit of citrus from Cafe Fleur!

The Stonewall Kitchen Lemon Herb Aioli which is a wonderful garlic herb mayoniaise. Fabulous on fish but also good with chicken. Makes a great base for chicken or salmon salad and crab cakes. It is even good as a salad dressing with chopped vegetables and roasted potatos and olives.

The French L’Ami Provencal citrus candies are shaped like little orange and lemon slices, and make a lovely gift or are nice to have out on a table. They are very french and not too sweet. 🙂

Farmhouse Lemons and Oranges from Bella Cucina are great in cocktails and sangria. Grind them up in a small cusinart and toss them into salads or make the delicious recipes on the labels: Shrimp and Scallop skewers or Lemon Pound Cake.

The Bella Cucina Lemon Relish is Meyer lemon with olive oil, vinegar, shallots, salt and herbs. This too can be tossed into salads. It is a wonderful condiment for fresh fish or chicken and brings a lot of zest to your favorite protein.

Fresh Cut Spring Flowers

Fresh cut flowers make a great addition to your home or as a beautiful gift. At Valley Forge Flowers, we can make you a nice wrap of fresh cut flowers. It is nice especially if you want to use your own vase or if you are trying to save money. The flowers look beautiful wrapped up and then tied with a bow. We use a VFF custom bow or for an extra dollar you can choose a different ribbon.

Pictured here is a fresh early spring mix with tulips, daffodils and hyacinths. It is also a great Easter gift!

When you bring your flowers home, remove the water tubes and place in a vase with room temperature or cold water. You are all Done! There is no trouble trying to position everything- it looks great.

People are always trying to make these beauties last longer. Our advice is to change the water in the vase and to snip the stems of flowers more frequently. Always cut flowers at a harsh angle- it allows them to drink more. You can use flower food if you like, it depends on your preference.

You can also place your flowers in a darker or shaded room with less sun to make them last longer. The more sun, the faster the flowers will open which will make them also die faster.
