Easter and Passover: Yum Yum Yum!

Easter and Passover are fast approaching! This week we will mention some accompaniments for your holiday dishes, as well as gift ideas for both young and old.

Try Terrapin Ridge Farms “Sweet Beet & Horseradish Mustard” , featuring chopped beets, Dijon and a hint of vinegar on your Passover brisket or roast…or a new twist with your gefilte fish.. It is also great as when tossed directly into a chopped salad with olive oil, ground pepper  and goat cheese.

The traditional Easter ham can get an instant flavor burst  with “Maine Maple Glaze” by Stonewall Kitchen. It is delicious as a glaze or served on the side..and better yet, your kids will love it!! Or, Try “Mustard with Fig” by L’Epicurien. This wonderful French mustard has a subtle sweetness and also serves well with all cheeses.

Don’t forget the Antipasti- we didn’t! “Caramelized Onions, Golden Raisins, and Fennel” by Bella Cucina makes a delightful condiment for ham and chicken,  but also makes an instant bruschetta when broiled on a croustade with some melted cheese.

Easter Baskets with gourmet style!! Janet can make one for you or you can arrange it yourself. These are great hostess gifts filled with all kinds of Café Fleur treats, such as, pesto, salami, cheese, savory salt, and meyer lemon relish all nestled into a bunny bowl! Or, add an extra touch to the basket by including one of our fragrant hand soaps or  candles.

For the kids Easter basket, we included gummy bears, jelly beans, chocolate, caramel popcorn and other sweet delights nestled in a fuzzy chick basket. We even have Bake at home “flower pot” bread and muffins…for the little chefs in your life!

A small gift idea are these raspberry chocolate truffle eggs in a “birds nest”.  They are amazing!

No one is complaining about the fantastic weather we have been having in the Philadelphia area. This week we are sharing some refreshing  drink ideas.

First off, we would like to highlight that our very own, Día Doce very recently won Cupcake Wars on Food Network with their girl scout cookie inspired cupcakes. Día Doce is located in nearby West Chester. Café Fleur sold the winning flavors in a four pack: a gluten free/ vegan “Thin Mint”, “Lemon Basil,” “S’more”, “and “Cinnamon Crunch”. If you are craving a special treat, it doesn’t get any better than this. Come sample these and many more delectable Dia Doce cupcakes at the café!

Café Fleur is proud to introduce its new frozen drink selection! All coffee drinks are now available iced as well, such as iced cappuccinos, chai lattes, coffee, mochas and more. The café also features a special line of frozen drinks that are thick, cool, and rich in flavor! Coffee, Mocha, Vanilla Latte, Chai, Caramel Blast (caramel and vanilla), Chocolate and Mango are our featured flavors. Bring the kids in for a tasty after school treat and top it with whipped cream- yum!

Not in the mood for a frozen drink? No problem! Try our Mash ­flavored sparkling beverages. These pleasant and fruity spritzer drinks are low calorie- boasting 40 calories per serving. Last but not least we now carry the infamous Chicken Salad from the Bryn Mawr’s Bakery House. Fresh white meat chicken tossed with celery and apples served on a bed of lettuce or in an Art of Bread Ciabatta roll. It is fresh, delicious and a new Café Fleur favorite!.

St. Patricks Day Food

St. Patrick’s Day is almost here! Café Fleur is here to give you only the best recommendations for how to make this holiday taste it’s best.

Dotterer’s Sweet Balsamic Vinaigrette and Mustard

Handmade in Newport, this old world label has some great taste. The vinaigrette is a great glaze for meats while the mustard is sweet, spicy and mimics a honey mustard, a winning combination with Valley Forge’s own cheddar with caramelized onions.

As for crackers, we applaud Effie’s crackers. Besides the colorful and playful packaging, these munchies sure have a great crunch! The oatcakes go well with any cheese, honey or jam. The nutcakes have made with wildflower honey and pecans. They are not as sweet as the oatcakes but go with everything just as well, even peanut butter. If you like cornbread, then the corncakes are meant for you! They are made with a touch of anise and taste like a cornbread cracker. All of these products are very versatile.

What would an Irish day be without tea? Tea Fortē puts unique infusions into their amazing teas. You can smell right through the packaging, it’s that good. One of the designers was nice enough to talk about some traditional Irish flowers along with put together a beautiful arrangement that would go great with any festivity you have planned!

White ranunculus and tulips are light and white while green hydrangeas, bells of Ireland, fuzzy dianthus, and ruffley green roses show different shades of green and texture. Lisianthus was added for a playful feel. Topped off with a stylish green bow around the vase.

Valley Forge always leaves their signature on all arrangements by lining all their vases with hydrangea leaves as an extra touch!

Basil Vinaigrette and Marinade by Aspen Cornucopia

Right off the get go, everyone raves about this product. It comes from a small sweet basil farm outside of Aspen, Colorado. This dressing tastes fresh and flavorful; you will want to put it on anything and everything. It is great on salads, especially, tomatoes and mozzarella, seafood, cheese, all kinds of sandwiches, chicken, and vegetables. We recommend stirring it into your tomato soup or drizzling it on white pizza for extra zest. This marinade also is great tossed into food before serving, such as pasta or fish. This product has so much flavor, that you only need to use a small amount to get a huge WOW out of your guests. Just enjoy!

Skillet Spreads and Sauces

Developed by a catering company in San Francisco, there are five unique flavors all of which are either bacon or pumpkin based. The spreads are both bacon based and contain real bacon, caramelized onion, brown sugar and vinegar: Original Bacon Spread (bacon barbeque flavor) and Fennel and Black Pepper (spicier kick). Both Bacon Spreads are a great bacon substitute for anything you would eat with bacon..scrambled eggs, omelets, BLT, turkey sandwiches, on top of a burger with melted cheese, sautéed into brussel sprouts or any green vegetable! Also, put a dollop on a croustade and bake in the oven with your favorite cheddar, goat or parmesan cheese for a delicious hors d’oeuvre. Mix with cream cheese or goat cheese for a delicious cheese spread or stir into mashed or baked potatoes!!

The pumpkin flavors are as follows: Brown Sugar and Apple Vinegar, Thai Coconut, Chipotle Pumpkin. All of these can be used the same way but each one has a distinct flavor. We suggest using the all of these sauces turkey, chicken, fish, rice, or potatoes. The pumpkin base makes it much healthier than most sauces and gravies. The Brown Sugar sauce is best used with turkey, chicken or fish either by browning it on the top at the end of cooking, or as a warm condiment. Thai Coconut is similar to a Thai Curry Sauce but it is much healthier since it has no cream. Use it in any stir fry, as a dip for your favorite skewers, spring rolls or Asian dumplings. Tthe Chipotle has a great smoky flavor that can be used in place of a barbeque sauce or as a kick to your favorite chili. Stir it into sautéed chicken or beef and make a delicious fajita or taco. You can also add any of the pumpkin sauces to cream cheese-goat cheese mixture and roll up in nuts for home made cheese balls.

These yummy crackers from Charlotte, North Carolina come in two flavors, The Original (Sweet Potato) and Cracked Black Pepper. Both flavors have no preservatives, are dairy free, and use real potatoes. The Cracked Black Pepper is also gluten free. These little discs go great with cheddar cheese, any dip or as a healthy snack instead of regular potato chips. Sweet potatoes are a hot trend in the food industry, and are unique to VFF.

Yee Haw! These popcorns are packed with fresh ingredients and come in four mouth watering flavors: Blisters on my Buttercrunch (mixed nuts and buttery caramel), Chili Con Chocolate (caramel corn drenched in rich dark chocolate, toasted with pecans and dusted with chili seasoning), Mutton Bustin’ Milk Chocolate (milk chocolate caramel corn mixed with hand made peanut brittle, toasted nuts and drizzled with white chocolate), and Fist Full of Fleur de Sel (dark chocolate drenched topped with hand made toffee and dusted with Fleur de Sel).

Fleur de Sel is a common trend in all the top chocolate shops right now, it is a flowering salt which compliments the sweet nature of chocolate.

Flower Show Banquet

Just merely hours ago we finished setting up for the banquet at the Philadelphia International Flower Show at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Even if you cannot attend, we hope that you enjoy these photos. Our loyal and amazing crew will be back at 11pm to take this all down so enjoy!
